Casa Olmo

Casa Olmo is a pub located in Ushuaia, Argentina, known by tourists as “the city at the end of the world”. It is settled on the shores of the Beagle Channel, only 43 km away from Cape Horn, the southernmost strip of land in South America. The original house belonged to the Olmo family, one of the first ones to set up their home in the city, so it’s a very traditional spot for the locals.

In order to preserve the spirit of the place and its magic, we decided (altogether with the architects), to play with the wealth of imaginings associated with this region, with special reference to the fantastic marine world of Jules Vernes and the discoveries of Darwin. Creatures from the deep, algae and elements of nautical life such as a compass, ancient maps and open pipework blend in a decorative mix that gives the warm, wood-dominated interiors a touch of magic.

Our creative proposal was based on improving original attributes of the house through a contemporary design approach. We designed a visual identity that elegantly communicates brand values without competing with the illustrated interior design. The typographic selection maintains a classic tone with modern details. The illustrations of the underwater magical world manage to appear in different pieces such as the food menu and personal cards but in a simple and subtle way.
